Studies show that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. This is known as Biophilia. As architects we are interested in how Biophilic design can improve the wellbeing and health of building occupants by promoting connections to the natural environment.
A new ‘vaulted arch’ of greenery was proposed to maximise the potential of the double height entrance space and create a memorable cathedralesque experience as you enter the building. Natural materials were used throughout, embodying tactile qualities and textures that connect with people at a human level. Use of earthy coloured textured floor finishes help to ground the occupants whilst natural wood elements add a warmness to the space.
