A new rear extension to this Victorian terrace opens the house to the generous but underutilised garden. As well as more floor area, the client also required a complete internal reconfiguration. To maximise the views to the garden, the most used rooms – the kitchen and living room – were moved from the front to the back of the property. Due to the level change between street level and garden level, it was possible to create both a ground floor terrace on top of the new extension as well as a lower ground floor deck out onto the garden.
The exposed ceiling joists and extensive bespoke joinery maximises space in the most used rooms. The extensive use of exposed timber responded to the client’s desire for warm, textured internal finishes.
